Diary of a Single Woman

The Struggle
As a single young woman, working on her growth in her connection with GOD one cannot ignore the need for personal relationships. The struggle I find is learning how to keep these relationships in perspective. Many women mistake the inner longing in their heart to be for love, marriage and/or motherhood. I have learned through my walk that the relationship we truly lacking, and searching for is with Christ. it was once said by Gary Chapman (quoted out of Lady in Waiting by Jackie Kendall and Debbie Jones),"

I feel very strongly that marriage is not a higher calling than the single state. Happy indeed are those people, married or single, who have discovered that happiness is not found in marriage but in a right relationship with GOD." Many of us feel that searching or finding "That Guy" will bring us the happiness we are looking for. Once I shifted my focus from finding "That Guy" aka Mr. Magnificent to developing my relationship with the Bridegroom, I find that the great loneliness I once felt is slowly diminishing.

I once had the idea that being married and having children made me "A Woman." I read a quote out of a book that truly changed my perspective. "A Woman is not born a woman. Nor does she become one when she marries a man, bears a child and does their dirty linen, not even when she joins a woman's liberation movement. A woman becomes a woman when she becomes what GOD wants her to be" (Learning to be a Woman by Jackie Kendall).

In bible study last Wednesday Pastor spoke of the woman and the alabaster jar. So I did some research. In the days when a young woman became of age for marriage, her family would buy an alabaster box and fill it with precious ointment. The size of the box and richness of the ointment would depend on her family's wealth and status. When a young man would come and ask for her in marriage, the woman would respond by anointing him with the oil, showing him honor. When Jesus was eating at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came and broke her alabaster jar and poured anointment on Jesus (See Mk 14:3-9). Luke 7 goes into details about how the people present judged her harshly. In Luke 7:39, she was referred as a sinner. The act of this woman should be the premier example for any single young woman looking to fulfill the emptiness in her heart. This woman gave her all to the Bridegroom; she broke her alabaster jar, and anointed the only ONE who could make her dreams come true. Jesus regarded this act very highly, and if we are searching for the fulfillment of our hearts...We should do the same.

So I challenge you today to search for your alabaster jar, and fill it with the deepest and greatest treasures of your heart, and bring it your Bridegroom and let him be "That Guy" for you.

May God Bless you all........
